Claude on Claude.Ai: How I Use AI to beat the daily grind and use it to diagnose a clothes washer
I have a rental property with a washing machine. One day it stopped working. It filled up with water. But it would not spin the clothes. The clothes came out soaking wet. If you own property, you know that feeling. Your stomach drops. You start doing math on a repair bill in your head.
So I did what I do now. I pulled out my phone and talked to Claude.Ai, my AI helper. What happened next is a good story about money, patience, and knowing when to stop. Let me walk you through it.
I Did Not Guess. I Asked.
I did not know what was wrong. So I typed a simple message: "My rental washer fills with water but will not spin the clothes. Where do I start?"
Claude.Ai did not dump a wall of text on me. It asked me smart questions, one at a time. Did the motor make any noise? Was the lid lock light coming on? Could I turn the tub by hand? I answered each one. I even snapped pictures and sent them. Little by little, we started ruling things out together.
One Clue at a Time
First we checked the drive belt. It looked almost brand new, so that was not the problem. Then we looked at the lid lock. It had gone quiet, and the lock light would not come on. Claude.Ai helped me find the reason: old soap and hard water gunk had packed into a little notch and blocked the sensor. I cleaned it out, and the lock light came right back on. A free fix.
But the tub still would not turn. So we kept going. Claude.Ai walked me into the machine own hidden test mode, the kind repair techs use. We watched the lights step through each cycle. No error code showed up. That told us the control board was most likely fine.
Then Claude.Ai caught the real clue in what I was hearing. The motor would try to start, go quiet, then try again and quit. That is the classic sign of a worn out start capacitor. It is a small part that gives the motor the push it needs to get going. The price? About thirteen dollars. Claude.Ai even helped me find the exact matching part and had me order it to the property.
To be safe, we also replaced the shift actuator. That is the little part that shifts the machine between wash and spin. A new one runs about thirty to fifty dollars. Now I had two fresh parts in the machine.
The Test That Settled It
I put it all back together and ran a spin cycle. And it still would not spin. Same story. It would kick like it wanted to start, then stop.
So Claude.Ai gave me one last test to settle it for good. Take the belt back off, run the motor alone, and watch it. With nothing connected, a healthy motor should spin right up. I could turn the motor easily by hand, so it was not locked up or seized. But under power, it just hummed and kicked and would not spin. Nothing was stopping it but itself. That pointed straight at the motor windings giving out.
Knowing When to Stop
Here is where the real lesson lives. A new drive motor runs about one hundred twenty to two hundred dollars, plus my time, going into an old used washer that had already shown its age. Claude.Ai laid the math out with me plain and honest. Sometimes the smart move is not to keep fixing.
So I made a business decision. I loaded the washer up and took it back to the used appliance store where I bought it. I traded it in on another used washer for one hundred fifty dollars. Same day. Back in service. Done.
Now here is the part people miss. That is not a loss. I spent around fifty dollars in parts to learn, for sure, that the motor was bad. That saved me from buying a brand new machine in a panic, and it saved me from dumping two hundred dollars into a motor for a washer on its way out. I did not guess. I knew. And knowing let me spend one hundred fifty dollars with confidence instead of fear.
What You Can Take From This
The washer is just one small story. But it shows a big idea. AI did not wave a wand and fix my machine. What it did was better. It kept me calm, walked me through the problem step by step, and helped me make a smart money call at the end.
You do not have to be a tech expert to do this. Maybe you run a small business. Maybe you are a busy parent, a teacher, or a landlord, or all of those at once. The same kind of help works for writing an email, breaking down a deal, or planning your week. You just need someone to show you how to use the tool.
That is what we do at Education and Business Automation. We help everyday people and small businesses use smart tools to save time, cut stress, and make better calls. We believe in making a positive difference while making a comfortable living. And we believe the best wins are the ones we share with each other.
